How to measure your ring size?
Rings are such a mysterious piece; they can range from the simplest ornament to a piece for an eternal memory, however, we have a problem... How do we know the size of our ring? This question may arise in the everyday life of our home when having a small craving for our first ring or it may even come up in one of the most important moments we can think of in our life, such as proposing marriage to the love of your life, therefore we came to give you some guidelines on how to measure your ring size.
These guides are in case you need the convenience of doing it yourself; for greater accuracy, you can go directly to a nearby jewelry or pawn shop and request a ring sizer. Alternatively, you can buy a special measuring tape for rings. Below, we will present 3 methods to measure your ring size, from which you can choose the option that suits you best:
Method 1: How to know your ring size using a measuring tape
Take a sewing tape measure; a construction tape measure is not recommended because it is rigid and can give you an incorrect perception of your size: Let's do an activity and a bit of math
- Step 1: Wrap your finger with the tip of the tape measure or from the start at zero, which would be the beginning of your measurement
- Step 2: Position the start with the end stop when wrapping the tape measure around your finger
- Step 3: We apply the mathematics:
- Let's take the image as a reference; it would be the measurement of 5.9cm
- We proceed to multiply the value by Pi.
- To that value, we can add 40 and we would have two measurements: the European size and the circumference. Then, on our Mandrel or Pin, we can see the parallel of the size, which would be the American size and, in turn, its diameter. With any of those 4 sizes, we will tell you your size.
5.9 * 3.1416 = 18.53 (EU) |
18.5 + 40 = 58.5 (Circumference) |
58.5 = Size 8 1/2 (US) = 18.6 (Diameter) |
Method 2: How to know your ring size using a ruler
This time we have a somewhat different conditional, as it requires the ring of a third party; whether it belongs to your partner, your parents, yours, or a special friend, even yours, any will work for taking sizes if you follow the following steps:
- Step 1: Take the ring that fits your size; a good fit is when you feel it goes on and off without discomfort, of course without it being able to fall off your hand.
- Step 2: Take a pencil and draw the inner ring of the circle. You will have the inner silhouette of the ring drawn on the sheet, just like in the image.
- Step 3: Then take a ruler and measure the exact diameter in millimeters of the circular shape you drew on the paper.
- Let's use the reference image again, the ring measured 1.55cm, in this case it would be 15.5mm
- We multiply that value by Pi.
- And we would immediately have the circumference, with that we have two measurements, from which the other two measurements would come out.
(Diameter) 15 * 3.1416 = 48.69 (Circumference) |
8.7 = Size 4 3/4 (US) = 18.7 (EU) |
Method 3: How to know your ring size using ua piece of paper and a ruler
We can apply practicality in this situation, take a piece of paper that has straight edges and wrap it around your finger, then mark the end and place it on the ruler, once you do that, follow the step-by-step of method 1.
And as a final recommendation, we can guide ourselves with an image similar to this one. If you want to save yourself the math, we apply an image like the following; however, we recommend using the previous guide to find a more accurate match with the ring you are looking for.
